SACC Arizona and SWEA Professional invites you to an informal Happy Hour Speaker event to make new contacts and gain new insights.

This September we welcome Bernd Häber, who will stretch our minds and dive deep into Pluralistic Ignorance and how to overcome Bystander Apathy.

"As individuals, we sometimes struggle with getting involved (or at least raise our voice) in social developments that contradict our core principles and beliefs … or we hesitate to mediate in situations affecting our personal environment.

Pluralistic Ignorance is a stage “in which each person decides that since nobody is concerned, nothing is wrong. Meanwhile, the danger may be mounting to the point where a single individual, uninfluenced by the calm of others, would react.”

Our speaker will share his story when a few years ago he decided to actively interfere in the social debate in the United States. His presentation connects current events, in the context of German history spanning from the 1930s – 2000s, with tactical and strategic aspects of how governmental decisions can impact our personal lives.

Bernd also wants to inspire us to overcome Bystander Apathy, discussing very specific examples that triggers actions. Furthermore, he offers an approach of getting personally involved in debates around society and of finding strategic partners when seeking to change a social ‘status quo’.

Bernd Häber is an Executive Team Member of the German American Chamber of Commerce (Arizona Chapter) and a member of the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce (Arizona Chapter). He works for Accenture, and is the founder of Worldstrings Promotion.

Bernd grew up in East-Germany behind the Iron Curtain before the Berlin Wall fell in 1989.
